2022, Doping in Professional Cycling: The Underestimated Organizational Dimensions
- Authors: Paché G.
- The cycling champion Lance Armstrong was at the heart of a doping system that gave rise to one of the most important scandals the sports world has ever known. Numerous studies have been devoted to the topic, adopting a medical, ethical, legal or psychological point of view. However, no research has addressed the organizational dimensions of an extremely sophisticated doping system that allowed Lance Armstrong to win seven successive Tours de France. The objective of this paper is to propose a reflection on these underestimated organizational dimensions, in particular as regards the management of the supply of doping products during the different stages (“étapes”) of the Tours de France. Beyond the specific case of doping in professional cycling, lessons can be drawn on the understanding of the logistical mechanisms related to the traffic of illicit substances.

CO-CREATING SUSTAINABLE SOLUTIONS FOR FUTURE- PROOF SOCIETIES
- Authors: Hyytinen K. m., Tuori Helmi, Suominen Arno
- RESER 2024, held in Espoo, Finland and hosted by VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland, brought together an international and interdisciplinary community of service researchers, practitioners, and policymakers. The central aim of this year’s conference was to explore how service research can contribute to building sustainable, inclusive, and resilient societies—focusing particularly on the role of digital transformation, co-creation, and systems thinking in addressing complex societal challenges. Under the conference theme “Co-creating Sustainable Solutions for Future-proof Societies,” participants examined how multi-faceted innovations, both technological and service-based, can be integrated with new governance models and participatory practices to shape transformative change. Sessions highlighted the need for systemic approaches to sustainability transitions, involving collaboration across sectors, dis- ciplines, and stakeholder groups. A key area of discussion was the integration of digital technologies such as AI, digital twins, and data platforms into public services and urban infrastructures. These tools were not only evaluated for their technological capabilities but also crit- ically examined through the lenses of ethics, inclusivity, and long-term social value. The conference also delved into sustainability in practice, showcasing innovations in energy, food systems, health care, and education that exemplify how services can support circular economies and more equitable futures.
